| "Self-inquiry will not make of you anything that you are not already, but it will, over time, destroy the false belief that you are at the mercy of this body, this mind, this story, this life. That false belief is the root cause of all human suffering whatsoever." John Sherman |

A Worldwide Online Meeting - February 10, 2008
Look at yourself as often as you can, because it is the seeing that does all the work. All of the activities of the mind in trying to understand how to do it, what to do, where to go, what it feels like, what it should be, what you should be, what it's going to mean to your life, what it does to your body, and so forth, all of these things are after the fact. Just look at yourself. The seeing does the work. None of the commentary, or the confusion, or the efforts to understand do any work at all, except to the extent that they provide some comfort to the mind. A Worldwide Online Meeting - March 1, 2008
As always, I am happy to see you here, or to see your names here, in any event. I am going to begin with reading a couple of emails that I have received in recent times, and responding to them here. You know, it is a kind of spiritual cliche to say that there is only one question. This cliche started out as an articulation of a momentary insight that was clear, and startling, and useful to people. However, my sense of it is that there are many questions. There are infinite questions, but there is really only one answer, which is not to say that, for the one who is harboring a burning question about reality or the relationship to it, or what can be done to realize freedom, a particular question is not unique and individual to the person who is asking it. It is not to say that it is the same question; it is not the same question. But it is going to be the same answer. So, I would like to be able to answer as many of the questions I receive as possible, over time, in a public forum, so that perhaps when you hear the questions here, they will resonate with your own belief that you are confused and something will be seen by you. So, enough of that. Onward and upward! Allons-y! Complete transcription of a Worldwide Online Meeting with John Sherman on March 1, 2008. Continued ...
A Meeting in Ojai, California - April 6, 2005
Spiritual Maturity There are a number of explanations that we give ourselves for why we come to meetings like this. I come because I love to be with you, I love to meet with you like this, in an atmosphere and a context in which the true desire and the willingness to know the truth prevail. Many others come for the same reason, because we love to meet together and talk to each other, and share with each other our experiences and tribulations in an honest and mature desire to know the truth. A Meeting in Ojai, California - May 6, 2006
A Fresh Start If you google the phrase "spiritual teachings", you will get over 15 million returns in less than half a second. Of course, those are just the web pages that have spiritual teachings in their keywords or their content. If you google "Buddhism", "Hinduism", "Advaita Vedanta", "Christianity" or "Islam", you will find hundreds of millions of pages about those spiritual teachings. And that is just what is available on the internet. There must be billions of spiritual teachings in the world, which is really quite remarkable. This business of spiritual teachings is like a jungle. It is a wild, untamed, crazy jungle. And that is really quite surprising since, if you look deeply enough, at the heart of all of them, there are some very simple insights and understandings. The first insight is that there are not two to be found anywhere. Sometimes that goes by the phrase, "All is one," but really it's that there are not two. There is nothing separate from anything else. That alone is enough. The other insight is that there is nothing wrong with anything or anyone. There is nothing wrong with me, and there is nothing wrong with you. There is nothing wrong with any thought, idea, expression, or behavior. There is nothing that needs to be fixed. That too is at the heart of all the spiritual teachings. Complete transcription of a Meeting with John Sherman on May 6, 2006 in Ojai, California. Continued ...
A Meeting in Westlake Village, California - April 29, 2007
There is a word I haven't used for a long time, but I am going to use it here with you guys today. I actually have spent quite a number of years avoiding this word, and just recently I have come to see that it is what we are about here. What I am here for is to bring you to enlightenment. Not the ideas about enlightenment that have taken hold of the spiritual community, by which I mean the probably hundreds of millions of people who are seeking enlightenment, seeking some transformation, seeking some transcendence, seeking nirvana, seeking eternal bliss. Here, we are about the reality of enlightenment, which is just bringing the light of reality to bear on all beliefs as to what I am.
