How to Use Our Community Forums

All  forums are public and visible to everybody. No registration is required to read the postings.

All postings are moderated. Every time a new posting is made in one of our forums, we receive an email. We both read all postings and approve all of them, unless they are offensive or completely beside the point and irrelevant to the looking.

We encourage you to join the conversation and make your own postings.  In order to be able to make postings, you will need to register. Don't worry, it's simple and easy to register.

Registering at the Community Center.

 

When you first come to the Community Center, you'll see this at the top.

Click on the link Click here to proceed to registration.

This link will take you to the registration page. Fill out the form and agree to the Community center rules:

Now check that the information you entered is correct and submit your registration by clicking on the button Complete Registration at the bottom of the page:

Once you submit your registration, you will receive an email from webmaster@riverganga.org with the subject line:

Action Required to Activate Membership for RiverGanga Community

Please add the email address webmaster@riverganga.org to your address book to make sure you receive this email. You will need to click on the link in the email to confirm your registration and activate your account.

Congratulations! Now that you are a registered user, you'll be able to join the conversation and take advantage of many free services available in our Community Center.

 

How to make your own postings

 

Once you confirm your registration and activate your account, log into the RiverGanga Community Center. You will see a List of Forums.

If you don't see it, click on Forum on the top menu.

Click on the forum you wish to view, post or reply in.

Registered users can view, post or reply in all forums.  Unregistered users can read postings in all forums.

Don't forget to read John's Sticky posting in each forum, which can be found at the top of the list of postings. It contains important information about the each forum.

 

Each forum is organized into Threads, which are listed under the name of the forum.

Each Thread has an original posting and any replies that are made to it.

This makes it easier to find postings and their respective replies.

(If you wish to reply to an existing thread, click on on the name of the thread which appears as a link, then click on Reply.  Then follow the instructions below.)

 

If you want to make a new posting, you must create a New Thread. Click on the blue button Post New Thread.

For example, if you wish to make a new posting in the Looking... forum. Once you clicked on the name of the forum, you'll see this:

Click on the + Post New Thread button.

 

Now you are at the Post New Thread page:

Give a Title to your posting.

Paste your text in the text box.

Before submitting your message, you can click on the Preview Post button to see if everything is all right. If you want to change anything in the text, you can go back and fix it.

When you're satisfied, click on the button Submit New Thread.

It might take a little for your post to show up, because initial postings by new members are moderated.

How to customize your profile

 

We encourage you to enter some information about yourself in your profile. This will make it easier for people to find you and for you to find other lookers in your area that you might want to get in touch with in person. You can add a picture and an avatar to your profile, add your geographical location, your email address, etc. You choose what information you want to make public in your profile.

 

First, log into your account at the Community Center with your email and password.

Then click on the link Settings on the top right corner of your screen:

This will take you to your Settings page, On the left side, you will see this:

Click on Edit Avatar to add a small picture of you that will appear next to your postings.

Click on Use Custom Avatar and choose Option 2 to upload a picture from your computer. Please pay attention to the size limit. The image file must be smaller than 80 x 80 pixels or 19.5 KB.

You can also upload a bigger picture that will be displayed in your Profile.

 

Click on the link on the upper right corner of your screen:

This will take you back to the Settings page. Click on the link Edit Profile Picture:

This will take you to the Edit Profile Picture page:

Choose Option 2 to upload a picture from your computer. This file must be 100 x 100 pixels and no bigger than 64.0 KB. Click to upload.

 

Now go back to the links on the top right of your screen and click on My Profile:

This will take you to the Edit Profile page. The fields on your page will be slightly different (the picture below is of an Administrator profile).

Enter the information you would like to share with other registered users in the forum. This information will not be available to non-registered users.

Keep in mind that the more information you provide, the easier it will be to connect with other people:

Once you finish entering the information, review it one more time to make sure it is correct, then click on the Save Changes button in the lower right corner of your screen:

You can change or update the information you just entered at any time by logging into your account and using the same Edit Profile form.
